Yes. Once you are invited to be a part of the top-12, you will be asked to sign a “First-Rights” recording contract with a record company. Anyone failing to do so will not be allowed to participate in the remainder of the competition.
The Top-12 performance episode is currently slated to film on Thursday, July 3 and Friday, July 4, 2008. We are expecting to have rehearsals leading up to that date.
Travel and accommodations will be provided by the Producer for you and one parent or guardian. This includes one round trip from your home town to Toronto for the filming.
NO. If you make it to the top 12 you will be need to accompanied by a parent or legal guardian through all production and promotion of the program.
You will be given the opportunity to perform one song on-camera before the judges. The judges will then select who will comprise our Top-Six.
If you are not selected to be a part of the top-six, you will be sent home, and may or may not invited to participate in the series again before the live finale.
If you are selected to be a part of the Top-Six, you will stay in Toronto for most of July and August, 2008 with one parent or legal guardian.
You can expect to be trained by some of Canada’s leading recording industry pros and various artists. You may be asked to perform a number of tasks and fulfill all of the requirements of the filming of The Next Star during July and August, 2008.
You are required to have a parent or legal guardian throughout the entire production. If one of your parents is not available, they can appoint another family member or friend who will accompany you and be responsible for your well being.
Your parents can choose to divide the time that they will need to be here for production. However, the producers will not pay for multiple airline/train tickets. The expense of switching would be covered by the participant and his/her parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Also, if your parents are splitting times, they must overlap so that you are never without a guardian.
You will be housed in long-term housing supplied by the Producer.
Yes, you will be permitted to call home during the taping of the series.
It is expected that you will be required to participate in filming obligations no more than five days per week.
No, you will not receive any compensation during the filming of The Next Star.
You will receive a meal allowance for filming days only. However, you will be responsible for all other expenses you may incur during the filming in July and August, 2008.
YES. You will be able to return home at the end of August and will be brought back to Toronto for the live finale at the Producer’s expense.
You will be brought back to Toronto near the end of September for the taping of the live finale. You may be asked to prepare one or two songs to sing live in front of a live audience. Your travel and accommodations will be covered by the Producer.
